Buttery, flaky maple and pecan plaits with a gooey nutty filling, perfect for holiday mornings or gifting. Freezer-friendly and simple to prep ahead.

  • Total Time: 40 minutes
  • Yield: 3–4 plaits

Ingredients

  • 1 sheet of puff pastry, thawed
  • 1/3 cup maple syrup
  • 2 tbsp brown sugar
  • 2 tbsp unsalted butter, melted
  • 1/2 cup chopped toasted pecans
  • 1/2 tsp cinnamon
  • 1 egg (for egg wash)

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment.
  2. In a bowl, mix maple syrup, brown sugar, butter, cinnamon, and pecans.
  3. Roll out the puff pastry and cut into 3 rectangles. Spread filling in the center of each.
  4. Make diagonal cuts along both sides of the filling. Fold strips over in a crisscross pattern.
  5. Brush with egg wash and bake for 20–25 minutes or until golden.
  6. Cool slightly before drizzling with extra maple syrup, if desired.

Notes

  • You can freeze unbaked plaits after shaping. Bake from frozen, adding 5–7 minutes.
  • To toast pecans, bake at 350°F for 5–7 minutes until fragrant.
  • Substitute chopped walnuts if pecans are unavailable.
